3x Fitness Instructor of the Year

For years I watched good men, the kind who hold families together, keep businesses running, and shoulder more than they ever say out loud, slowly slip to the bottom of their own priority list.

Not because they were lazy or didn’t care, but because life kept handing them responsibilities faster than they could catch their breath.

And somewhere between the long workdays, the late-night emails, the kids’ sport, the stress-eating, and the “I’ll start Monday”… their health quietly unraveled.

I started Fitness Rebirth Academy because far too many mid-life men were stuck in that space, puffed walking up stairs, ignoring the doctor’s warnings, avoiding photos, tugging at shirts that didn’t fit, and telling themselves, “I’ll sort it one day.”

I knew they weren’t broken. They just needed a path that finally lined up with real life.

Here in Christchurch, every man who joins our programme brings a story of being stretched thin. And every one of them deserves a space built specifically for blokes their age, not a gym full of twenty-somethings, not a shred challenge designed to burn them out, and not another plan that collapses the moment life gets busy again.

So we created something better: a coaching-driven, habit-focused, community-supported system that respects where men are starting and gives them a clear, step-by-step way forward.

The journey didn’t come from theory, it grew from years of watching patterns repeat. Men were exhausted, ashamed of the weight creeping on, scared of where their health was heading, and frustrated that they couldn’t stick with anything long enough to see real change.

So we built a process that starts gently, progresses safely, and layers habits in the right order. Week by week, they learn the mindset, nutrition, movement, stress tools, and planning skills that make change stick, not for six weeks, but for life.

And the results have been powerful. Men who couldn’t jog to the letterbox are now climbing stairs without puffing.

Men who carried an extra 10–15 kg for years are now lighter, clearer, calmer, and more confident.

Men who once numbed out with alcohol and takeaways are now handling pressure with steadiness and purpose.

Their partners say things like, “I feel like I’ve got my husband back.” Their kids get a dad with energy again.

And these men finally look in the mirror and feel proud instead of disappointed.

We help them move better, think clearer, sleep deeper, and show up in their lives with energy instead of exhaustion.

And we do it together, as a community of men who get it, cheer for each other, and never let anyone fall through the cracks.

Because mid-life doesn’t have to be the slow decline everyone jokes about.

It can be the moment everything turns around, the moment a man decides to rise again, stronger and more alive than he’s felt in years.

That’s what Fitness Rebirth Academy exists for. And we’re only getting started.

  • Middle-aged men with obesity face a 44% higher risk of serious cardiovascular events over 20 years.

  • Hitting 150–300 minutes of moderate activity weekly can reduce early mortality risk by 35–42%.
